Welcome!
This is my blog and it's mostly about knitting and yarn but also about other aspects of my life - books, movies, football (soccer), food, travels, my work as an archivist.

kaffe fassett

Prince Eugen's former home Waldemarsudde is now a art museum. Prince Eugen, 1865-1947, was an artist himself and also an art collector. When he died his home became a museum and one of the exhibitions at Waldemarsudde at the moment is both old and new works by Kaffe Fassett. The museum is showing his knitting, needlework and patchwork. So after work I took some of my co-workers - Andrea, Stina, Ylva-  with me and visited the museum. And we all liked what we saw. His quilts are amazing.

But I think most of his knitting is to much, great colours but just to much.... or so I thought. Today I fell in love with a couple of his sweater designs and I bought yarn and pattern for a pair of mittens.

Yarn: Rowan Scottish Tweed and a pattern designed by Kaffe Fassett.

I have soon new wallpapers in my livning room. This is how it look at this moment: Bare walls with no wallpaper at all. I can't wait to see the final result.

socktoberfest ideas

I have been searching for sock patterns on internet, in magazines and books and I found many. Some I liked right away and some others that I didn't like. Some of the patterns are a big hit - like the Jaywalkers and most of you have already made a pair or two. I'm thinking to start of Socktober fest with these. The yarn will be self striped Opal prisma.

Here are a few of the other patterns I found and I planing to start at least one of these during Socktober fest.

Check the photos for more informations on the socks.

I will now continue on my second Dublin Bay sock! What are your plans for Socktober fest?

one sock, one love

Tonight I finished my first Dublin Bay sock. And I need to cast on for the next foot. But I will do that tomorrow during the coffee break at work. I meet up with my knitting gals at Gino's tonight. I haven't been there for weeks and weeks. But it was nice to see the ladies again. And some of them had a bump to show! Congratulations to Jenny and Anna! I didn't bring my camera so I have no pic's from Ginos, but I have pic's of my Dublin Bay sock.

One of my colleagues came with me to Gino's, Julia. And I think she had a good time, and I'll hope to see her again at Gino's.

misty mornings, trippin' and a move

For a couple of days now the mornings and most of the evenings has been really misty. Autumn is here! With chilly mornings but warm days. But I still wear my summer skirts.. can't wait to wear my tweed skirts.. When I walked home after work I saw a lot of nice tweedy skirts at H&M, and I want them all.. But today I just shoped some underwear.

I have been caught with an itch, the travelling bug... I found myself seaching for air tickets on the internet this afternoon. And I found something (really) cheap, to my favorite destination.. I want to go! I'm thinking of going in late November for some Christmas shopping! But I will give it a thought before I order the ticket.

But I have a trip scheduled in October (Oct 19-20) domestic trip, up north, to Kiruna. It's a work trip, with me, Monica and the boss. Kiruna is situated way up north, way up above the Arctic Circle. Check the map, below!

I'm going to leave this blog when this week ends, but don't be afraid, I will move to an other place. I know that at least one of you, has already found my new home! But I have to organize things before I invite you all to my new home. OK?

old socks

Way back, before I had a blog I made my first pair of socks. The year was 2004, month, October. My Grannie had died a couple of months before, and she did all my socks. I was the only grandchild who requested knitted socks for a gift when asked (even as an adult). And then she died. My supply of socks was running out. I had to do it myself.  I hadn´t knitted for 15 years and I hadn't knitted a sock. And I couldn't ask Grannie. I had to teach myself. I found a great book at the library (I sadly don't remember the name) and I talked to Mum over the phone and talked to my co-workers and after a while I had something that looked like a sock. And after a week I had a pair. They are not the prettiest of socks. But they are my first. And I wear them in public!

my first socks

My second pair looked better, but I had problems with the heel and the thing with picking up stitches. You reconize the holes.. After a couple of socks I began to use  diffrent colours in the same sock (but still the same pattern!)

I still use this pattern when I want a fast knitted project and a new pair of a pair of regular socks!

socks, again

I have of course signed up for Socktober fest 2006! Do you remember these from last years sock fest?

Earlier this summer I had a yarn swap with my former SP 7 spoliee, Susan and I got a lot of sock yarn from her (and she got some yummie Alpaca from me!) And I had Socktober fest in mind. I have found a couple of pattern online and in my books, and I will try some of those during Socktober fest.

If you have a great sock pattern, please let me know! (online or in a book)

socks

I have finally picked up my knitting again. I haven't knitted a stitch for weeks, but yesterday during the wait for the result of the Swedish election I was sitting in my sofa watching TV and knitting on my Dublin Bay socks. Still on the first sock.. But it's time to shape the toe very soon. Here are the latest pic's of my Dublin bay.

And don't forget Socktober fest 2006, starts October 1st.

And talking about socks. At my underground station, Näckrosen (Water Lily Station in English - how poetic!) you can find this in a display: A pair of a big fair isle socks. I pass this pair every morning and they makes me smile! Subway Art!

The Stockholm Underground is filled with art, but I haven't seen anything knitted before!

day off

I had a day off today. And I spent a couple of hours at IKEA. I needed things to my apartment and I wanted some inspiration. I saw a lot of things I liked. When I saw Ektorp Chaise in the catalouge I totally fell in love and now I've seen it live and I'm still in love with it. But I want it in an other colour than below. I like the whole Ektorp series. The sofas, the chairs, the footstool, the pillows and the chaise. My next sofa will be a Ektorp - I have a Klippan (bought 8 years ago).

This time I bought only small things. I needed 2 curtain rods for the bedroom and the kitchen. I have -finally- got some new wallpapers in those rooms. And I wanted to put up the curtains to make it cosy.

Next up is new wallpaper in the living room - can't wait... I really need to get my apartment in order!

knitty and remembrance

Have you seen the new Knitty? And I like some of the patterns. A couple of nice socks: Diamante, Sox on 2 stix, Red herring and a sweather Viveka, design Suss Cousins (Swedish, living in LA). Maybe I will knit some of these during the winter.

5 years since the attac against the Twin Towers, World Trade Center in NY and 3 years since the murder of the Swedish foreign minister Anna Lindh. It's a sad day, today! I was at work when I heard about WTC, it was late afternoon here. And Annas dead, was annonced in the morning about 9 am, September 11, 2003. She was stabbed with a knife at NK, the posh department store, September 10.
